July 21, 2007 : Leebea Purple Plum Daylily

Well, the gardens are at their peak. I say that because they possess an unrivaled freshness at this time of year. As the season progresses most annuals will continue to get larger and more colorful, so traditionally we have told people that the gardens peak in the first week of August. However, Petunias and Salvia cannot rival the short-lived glory of Monarda and Astilbe at their peak.

In reality it is impossible to determine a peak. Some things get better and some decline. That is the eternal, everchanging story of the garden. But if we're going to get any postcard pictures we should do it soon, I think.

Pictured here is Leebea Purple Plum Daylily.

I put a few current pictures up on the gardens website, www.bergesongardens.com.
