September 14, 2007 : Bounty of Impending Frost

It's clear and cool. I haven't checked the computer, but I don't need to. It will freeze tonight, the first hard frost.

The day before the first freeze is poignant but can also be fun. If you've been tempted all summer to drive the golf cart right through the middle of a flower bed, today is the day to realize your dream.

Yesterday I thought it was going to freeze and took the liberty of making some huge bouquets from white phlox, Amazon Neon Purple Dianthus, and Autumn Joy Sedum. I also searched out and snipped every nice tea rose blossom in the gardens. The plants can't mind. This will give their beauty a chance to be appreciated for a few more days.
